Laura Fournier is a French craft designer, who is currently based in Barcelona. Having grown up in the south of France, she studied Industrial Design and Interior Architecture at École Camondo in Paris. During her studies, she nurtured her skills and knowledge by undertaking an internship over three summers at the interior architecture studio, Naitat+Ham in New York where she worked on various housing projects in the city and in New Jersey. She later completed an internship at Constance Guisset Studio, Paris where she supported several interior and furniture design projects.
In 2014, Fournier moved to Santiago de Chile for an internship at Murtagh Studio, where she undertook ceramic projects for the Borago restaurant and furniture and textile design projects. Back in Paris, the following year, she worked part-time as a ceramicist assistant at Aurélie Dorard Studio while developing her own personal projects. She then moved to Amsterdam in 2015, where she worked as an assistant designer for Pepe HEYKOOP & Tiny Miracles, overseeing the Clock and Paper projects development.
The designer is particularly interested in the manufacturing process and expresses this through her own design work. She is drawn to the natural materials of her surroundings and allows them to tell their own story within her creations that are often realized through collaborations with local craftsmen. Her decorative works have a subtly that celebrates both natural materials and craft, as seen in The Clochette Lamp, which features a neon light inside a hand-blown glass dome upon a pastel onyx base. This unique assemblage of materials amounts to a minimalist sculptural piece that is an homage to innovations in contemporary design, as well as the natural world of our surroundings.
